National Train Day
Filed Under Events | Leave a Comment
I was going to give a mention about this several weeks back, but it slipped my mind. Today is National Train Day. In fact, it’s the first National Train Day ever to be held. I think quite a few people overlook how great rail transportation can be. This of course would depend where you are located in the country, but there are plenty of benefits for just about everyone.
I believe train ridership has increased over the years, as more and more people become aware of the convenience and money saving aspects of taking the train. For me, being situated in the Midwestern states, riding the train is an incredible value if I’m looking to get to major cities.
Today, May 10th, four of the largest Amtrak stations across the United States are holding celebrations for National Train Day. The Los Angeles Union Station, Chicago Union Station, New York City Penn Station, and Washington DC’s Union Station have festivities such as live entertainment, promotions, giveaways, and even some VIP appearances.
Visit the official National Train Day website to learn more about today’s celebrations.

Red Bull Air Races

With the excitement of the Kentucky Derby taking place this weekend, I almost forgot about the Red Bull Air Race World Series that was going in in San Diego California. The event, part of a worldwide series, features some of the world’s best pilots who show off their flying skills in all sorts of ways. I’ve been following this aviation event since it got under way back in 2001. I find it a bit more fascinating each year it takes place, offering a whole bunch of thrill and excitement.
The race is made up of several sessions; Training, Qualifying, Point One, the Super Eights, the Semi Finals, Third Place Fly Off, and a Final Session. The basic idea is to navigate the plan through a series of air filled pylons. Things such as speed and efficiency are the most important, as pilots try to complete each course with the least amount of penalties. There are always exciting moments, and it’s really amazing what some of these pilots have the ability to do.
The Red Bull Air Race World Series website has quite a bit of information to help familiarize yourself with the event. You’ll find a complete schedule, photos, videos, and much more. The event is televised all across the world, so if you aren’t near a location to check it out live, you’ll most likely be able to see it on television.
