Competition Thrives at ibeatyou
Filed Under Contests, Entertainment, Internet, Social Networking, Talent | Leave a Comment
Here’s a creative one. ibeatyou, or IBY for short, is a website focused on attracting those with a competitive edge. The platform is setup so people can start their own competition, and compete with others from across the world. You can choose to keep your competitions private if you aren’t willing to let the whole world see.
After my brief exploration of the site, I found competitions taking place such as a staring contest, a dance battle, scariest face, and signing contests. By no means is the site limited to these types of competitions, but that’s what makes up the majority. Some competitions are able to get quite a few views, while others are barely noticed.
I’m not sure how well a site like this can do, but it is a bit more on the creative side. There are so many social networking type sites popping up everyday, it’s almost hit or miss when it comes to popularity. With that said, if you are a bit curious, check out ibeatyou and see what kind of competitions are a grabbing people’s attention. The least bit you can do is gather some ideas of what’s popular and what’s not.

Wow! I found this interesting. It looks like Brijit, best known for their abstracts of everyday articles, has run out of money. I really didn’t know what Brijit exactly was until a freelance writer friend of mine told me to check it out. Well, in fact, that’s exactly what I did a few days ago. I thought I would take a stab at submitting an abstract to see if it would get accepted. If my abstract was chosen, I’d be paid $5. I was wondering why it was taking so long to hear back, because the site said you’d be notified fairly quickly after the submission date ended. Well, now I find out that Brijit has ran out of money. Oops!
After visiting the main page of Brijit this morning, I get the following message:
You’ve reached this page because, at the moment, Brijit is out of money and can no longer afford to bring you the world in 100 words. We’re working hard to find a way forward for our service and hope to relaunch in the not-too-distant future. Thanks to all our loyal readers and writers. And to our Brijit writers: payments in full for all abstracts published through May 15 will be made next week.
To access Brijit and our nearly 16,000 abstracts, click here.
To email Brijit with any questions, click here
For more on what’s happening with Brijit, please visit our blog at brijit.wordpress.com
That’s too bad. I actually thought this was an interesting concept. Definitely a big downer for all the serious Brijit contributors who spent a great deal of time at the site.

Showcase Your Talents, Claim Your Fame
Filed Under Culture, Entertainment, Internet, Music, Recreation, Reviews, Social Networking, Talent | Leave a Comment
I’m excited about a fairly new social networking site that instantly grabbed my attention when I first heard about it on CNN a little while back. Taltopia, a Los Angeles based media distribution and social networking company, launched back in March of 2007. The goal of Taltopia is to provide a platform for people to showcase their talent. Actors, singers, musicians, comedians, artists, models and more are all welcome to participate. If you have the talent, all you have to do is upload your media such as audio, video, or photos, and start being seen.
Not sure of your talents? No problem! You can join the Taltopia critic crowd and begin offering your opinions on those showcasing their stuff. Fans and critics vote for their favorites, giving them that extra edge they seek. Those with talents who get a higher amount of votes get featured on the front page of the website, offering even more exposure for those wanting to claim their fame.
I think sites like this are a fantastic opportunity to gain that extra bit of exposure one needs to get noticed. Those who wish to share their talent have plenty of avenues to explore, but there is always room for additional opportunities. Everyone knows there are talent agencies and talent agents all over the place, but it really comes down to networking and connecting with the right people at the right time. The coolest thing is that Taltopia is a FREE service for everyone. Visitors can register for free and simply create their own profile.
Let’s face it, it seems like everyone is trying to be some sort of celebrity these days. Everyday aspiring talent is searching for casting calls, looking for gigs, and trying to create additional self promotion. And even those who don’t seek celebrity status find alternative ways to participate, like voting for others. Look at the explosive amount of people who vote for their favorites on hit television shows like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. And those are only just a couple popular shows where you viewers can vote. Growing communities of individuals who strive for fame, fortune, and participation have all come together, and I think a website like Taltopia makes it even more exciting for everyone.

Powerset: Search Engine? No Search Engine.
Filed Under Computers, Internet, Technology | Leave a Comment
Powerset is something I’ve been watching for a little while, sparking a bit of curiosity. If you’re not quite sure what Powerset is, you may want to cruise on over to the official Powerset website to learn what the fuss is all about. San Francisco based Powerset just launched their first product which is a new type of searching experience for those who are interested in searching content on Wikipedia.
You’re able to search Wikipedia article using several methods, one method being the use of questions. You can also produce varying search results using specific phrases along with your basic keywords. The search results are more enhanced than standard search results from Wikipedia, offering something a bit more unique. The results are almost condensed and formed in a way that can reduce the amount of time one spends searching through irrelevant information.
There has been a considerable amount of progress in the development of Powerset, and I’m looking forward to see how things continue to move along. I’m quite positive there are good things to come from Powerset, but of course all that remains to be seen.

Making Money Online
Filed Under Business, Internet, Marketing, Money | Leave a Comment
I know, everyone has heard all the claims of making tons of money online. It’s actually becoming quite difficult to sift through all of the money making schemes that are being thrown around left and right. I remember joining my first affiliate marketing group way back in the mid 90s. I was in for a big surprise when I spent an enormous amount of time trying to get my marketing campaign rolling. I didn’t know what I was doing unfortunately.
The good thing now is that there are all sorts of ways you can learn all the ins and outs of producing a pretty decent amount of income through online sales and marketing. One thing hasn’t changed however, and that is the importance of learning solid methods and techniques. I know a lot of money can be lost if you dive head first into affiliate and internet marketing without having at least some knowledge of what you are doing.
Yesterday I spent a fair amount of time reading about an exclusive community that brings money making experts and beginners together. I highly recommend that you learn more about this new and valuable resource too if you if you are serious about learning the best, from the best. I must say, these types of communities are extremely helpful when it comes to educating yourself about ways to earn money over the internet. Like I have mentioned here before, it’s unfortunate there is more misinformation out there than credible information when it comes to money making ideas. There is a lot of good and valuable information out there too, it’s just a matter of matching yourself up with the tools and resources that are the most effective.
